Optical fiber (optical fiber) is a technical product consisting of a light guide (physical medium in which the optical signal is transmitted), protective coatings and color marking sheath. Optical fiber, depending on the needs, can be used as an independent product, or have additional protective coatings when used as cords and patch cords, as well as in more complex structures - in the form of optical cables. Optical cable has in its structure one or more fibers, enclosed in a common sheath, on top of which there may be various protective structures (sheaths, armor coatings, etc.). In addition, hybrid optical cables have electrical conductors in their structure. Materials of optical fibers and sheaths in the cable, as well as their design, determine the scope of its application, type of laying, installation and operation capabilities.
